How to keep Google Flights and Google Hotels showing USD
For a one-time change on Google Flights, choose US dollars from its Currency menu. To reapply the preference as you browse, Force USD provides an automatic option on supported Google Travel pages.
Change Google Flights currency without an extension
- Open Google Flights with USD selected.
- Scroll to the page’s currency selector and select US dollars.
- Choose English separately if needed. You do not need to change your location just to change the display currency.
Google says its initial Flights experience depends on your computer’s location and browser settings. Its official currency and language instructions explain the native controls. A bookmarked USD link can help you start in dollars; later searches and navigation may carry their own preferences.
Why is Google Hotels still showing ringgit with curr=USD?
In a signed-out Chromium session from Malaysia on September 29, 2026, our test reproduced Google Hotels showing ringgit even when the URL already included curr=USD. The URL’s encoded ts search state also contained a currency value.
Updating that currency state produced a USD selector and dollar prices in the tested page; EUR also worked. The fix preserved the encoded dates and guest information. This is an observation from our implementation testing, not a Google-documented guarantee for every hotel page.
If the parameter alone is ineffective, try the page’s native currency selector and check both its selected value and the displayed prices. Avoid deleting the entire search state: it can contain your dates and other search choices. Force USD includes targeted handling for the currency field.
Use Force USD to reapply your preference
The Chrome Web Store release is being prepared and is not yet published. Once installed:
- Open the extension and read its privacy disclosure.
- Select “Agree and enable,” leave currency as USD, and choose your language preference.
- Open or revisit a supported Google Travel page. Check the website’s selected currency and actual prices.
Force USD also handles supported regional Google domains and navigation within pages. It preserves unrelated query parameters and limits repeat corrections. If a page refuses the preference, use its native selector or turn the extension off; repeated reloads are not required.
What remains outside this fix?
Google Maps hotel cards are not the same as Google Travel hotel pages. This guide does not promise a Maps fix. Website changes, signed-in preferences and regional availability can affect behavior. USD display does not guarantee USD payment or lower prices.
